While it is not uncommon to experience distressing emotions, maladaptive thoughts, and difficult life events, we don’t always have the tools or strategies to manage. The inability to cope can make us feel alone, isolated, and overwhelmed. As a social worker, I work collaboratively with clients to build a trusting therapeutic relationship to support individuals throughout therapy.

Chronic illness can often cause symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can further complicate how we feel physically and mentally. This can create feelings of hopelessness, depression, and anxiety and can complicate the relationships we have with ourselves and our loved ones. Therapy can support individuals as they move through all stages of chronic illness so they feel less alone and supported throughout the entire process.

As a registered social worker, I’ve obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work. My clinical experience comes from working in various settings, including hospitals, residential treatment centres, community settings and private practice. My areas of focus include complex trauma and PTSD. In addition, I also work with individuals who have a history of eating disorders/disordered eating, body image concerns, addiction and complex mental health issues. I incorporate evidence-based treatment models within my practice along with mindfulness-based strategies.

While therapy can be uncomfortable, I frequently remind individuals that this is when change and growth happen.
