Sesame Oil for Platelet Support

Research suggests that sesame oil may help support platelet health due to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Compounds in sesame oil, such as sesamol and sesamin, may help protect platelets from damage caused by oxidative stress. In doing so, sesame oil may help to improve platelet levels.

While this research is promising, we still need more robust evidence that sesame oil indeed increases platelet counts in people with low platelets. Despite the need for more evidence, sesame oil may still offer various health benefits due to its overall antioxidant profile and be an enjoyable nutrient-rich, healthy oil you can regularly add to your diet. Pure, untoasted sesame oil has a mild, neutral, slightly nutty flavour, so it’s quite versatile to use in your everyday diet.

Some easy ways you may try adding it to your diet include:
•    As a salad dressing base, mixed with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, a little mustard, and herbs
•    Drizzled over steamed or roasted vegetables (like carrots, squash, green beans, or broccoli)
•    Used as a finishing oil on grains such as rice, quinoa, or millet
•    Blended into hummus or bean dips in place of some olive oil
•    Added to soups or stews at the end of cooking for gentle richness
•    Used in low-heat sautéing or light stir-frying, where high heat isn’t required. Because it’s untoasted, it’s best kept away from very high heat to preserve its nutrients and flavor.

It is suggested that using 2 tablespoons per day is a good start. Remember to opt for organic, untoasted varieties wherever possible.
