Have you heard of Qi Gong?

This ancient practice, pronounced "chee gong," can be a powerful tool, integrating movement, breath, and intention to, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), harmonize the mind, body, and spirit. Rooted in TCM, Qigong is meant to support the free flow of energy—known as qi—throughout the body. In TCM theory, stagnant qi is believed to contribute to various health concerns, including pain, fatigue, and overall discomfort. By practicing Qigong, it is believed that individuals can help restore balance and vitality to their systems.

Qigong and Cancer Support
Recent studies have highlighted the benefits of Qigong for individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Research suggests that this gentle practice can help enhance quality of life, reduce stress, and alleviate some of the side effects associated with conventional treatments. The combination of deep breathing and intentional movement is thought to play a significant role in these positive outcomes, promoting relaxation and overall well-being.

A Simple Qigong Exercise to Get Started
Qigong is often practiced under the guidance of a trained master, but you can begin incorporating its principles into your routine with simple exercises. One foundational exercise frequently used between movements is the Harmonizing Breath.

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, hands relaxed at your sides.
  2. Take a deep belly breath in, gently bringing your hands up to heart level with palms facing inward.
  3. Slowly exhale, returning your hands to your sides with palms facing downward.
  4. Repeat for 2-3 cycles of breath, focusing on the flow of breath within your body.

This mindful breathing exercise is an excellent introduction to the benefits of Qigong, promoting relaxation and a sense of inner balance.
